Grandmaster is an upcoming Malayalam action thriller film directed by B. Unnikrishnan, starring Mohanlal, Narain, Anoop Menon, Priyamani, Jagathy Sreekumar in the lead roles. The film is produced by India's premium production company UTV Motion Pictures. The soundtrack is scored by Deepak Dev along with lyrics by Chitoor Gopi, Chandra Shekar, Hari. Grandmaster is scheduled to release on May 03, 2012.

Mohanlal takes up the role of a divorcee in the film,Grandmaster. He lives alone in a dark and violent city. Even when unlawful incidents take place around him, he withdraws himself from all responsibilities and is happy to live quietly. But he is forced to change and take up his duties and responsibilities. Like a grandmaster who anticipates his opponents moves well in advance, he proceeds forward. But only once, just once, he makes a fatal mistake.

After the film Madampi, Mohanlal and director B. Unnikrishnan joins again in this film, written and directed by B. Unnikrishnan. Mohanlal will play a Police Officer with different mannerisms.It is reported by the producer that its theme is very fresh and racy with lots of variety situations. This will be the first production venture of bollywood production company UTV Motion Pictures.Shooting starts from December 2011. It will be released in May 2012. Priyamani essays the female lead character. Priyamani, who has some acclaimed Malayalam films under her belt, expressed her desire to feature in a film alongside Mohanlal.Priya is chosen to play an important role in Mohanlal's latest film Grandmaster, which is being produced by a big production house. "This is an important role, but, from the looks of it, will not pair her romantically opposite him. Yet, she will be seen in many scenes opposite Mohanlal," says a source. This crime thriller will have Priya in the role of a lawyer who enters the plot at an important juncture. "This is going to be a role that requires someone who can set the screen on fire. So, the makers felt that she would be a good bet, considering her previous releases in Mollywood," says the source. Priya, who is currently shuttling between Telugu and Kannada film sets, confirms, "Yes, I have been offered the role and I've signed it. This will be my first film opposite Mohanlal."
